Bio:Kempei joined NTT in 1989, and worked on various projects including building global corporate intranet, leading the NOC in national internet project, and building the first global internet backbone for NTT. He moved to New York to expand the internet footprint in US.
In 2002 he returned to Japan and worked on global networks. He then worked on creating NTT Group strategy for North Asia, mainly China, Taiwan, and Korea. In 2007 he led the engineering team for global networks, and then in 2015 took over the engineering for domestic networks (enterprise VPN and broadband internet). He also looked after network security, 2020 Olympics Preparation team, and Program Manager for the Next Generation Platform Task Force (network edge compute).
From 2019 he is working on creating the global network architecture for NTT, including data center, subsea cable, and inland fiber.
