Bio:Mr. Zahirul Alam, the Executive Director of IDF, Bangladesh completed his master’s degree in Economics from the University of Chittagong, Bangladesh. He started his career with Nobel Laureate Prof. Muhammad Yunus as the founder member-secretary of Rural Economic Program (REP) where Grameen Microfinance Model was developed. He left REP in 1976 to join Bangladesh Academy for Rural Development (BARD) to work on the improvement of socio-economic conditions of the poor before he joined ILO in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia in March 1984. He came back home in 1992 to work for the poor and disadvantaged people of backward and un-served areas of Bangladesh and established IDF in December of the same year. IDF is now a leading development organization working for the poor in Bangladesh. At present Mr. Alam also serves as board member of Grameen Trust and Credit Development Forum, Bangladesh. Mr. Alam is author of many publications.
